Description[]

This was a large 1:18 scale rendition of the '55 Chevy Bel Air Gasser, donning the "Candy Striper" livery. The model featured a total of 127 parts; it featured movable parts such as working steering and opening doors and trunk.

This model was made available in an RLC exclusive crowdfunding campaign that ran from 12 September to 10 October 2023; members could back the project for $250, with 10,000 backers required at minimum to bring the model to production. Three additional stretch goals were available as well; 13,000 backers would unlock a 1:64 replica of the Candy Striper (this model featured some differences from its 2014 counterpart), 16,000 backers would unlock plug-in exhaust flames and smoke-shaped stands that could display the car in a wheelie and 19,000 backers would unlock a diorama scene for display purposes and individual serial numbering for each set.

Funding started strong but quickly slowed down over the course of the first week of the campaign, plateauing at around 39% of its funding goal. In an attempt to revive interest in the campaign, Mattel moved the 1:64 replica into the base tier on 25 September and dropped the second and third tier goals to 13,000 and 16,000 backers respectively. By 10 October, the campaign was only 57% funded with 5,749 backers; as a result the project was unsuccessfully funded and the model not produced. The model would however be reused to develop a smaller scale counterpart for the Premium 1:43 line.
