Description

The '70 Plymouth Superbird is based off of the actual production model. The 2010 Mopar Mania editions are based on the Plymouth Superbird NASCAR Race Car. Back in the old days of NASCAR, Dodge had a hard time keeping up with the competition, literally. Engineers in 1969 made a modified 1969 Charger, known as the Daytona, NASCAR regulations stated that Dodge had to produce these for the public in order to race it, so they did. A bit of time passed and Plymouth found that Dodge was kicking their butt, big time. So, in the 1970 NASCAR season, Plymouth kicked it into high gear, no pun intended, and made the iconic Superbird. Plymouth designers didn't want to make their prized Roadrunner ugly so they only agreed to make it if they could make it pretty. They redesigned the nose, and put the wing a bit higher up on the trunk, which made it a bit slower (~3mph slower) than the Daytona Again, the Superbird had to be produced to the public. In summary, the 1970 NASCAR season was dominated by the Daytona and Superbird.
