Description[]
The Checker Marathon was a four- or five-door automobile manufactured by Checker Motors Corporation of Kalamazoo, Michigan from 1961 to 1982. Introduced in September 1960 to replace the Superba, the Marathon was notable in that it changed rather little over its long years of production apart from the usual mechanical changes. These were powered by a number of V8s, usually a Chevrolet small block. The last Marathon was produced in 1982 when Checker exited the automobile manufacturing business, but continued manufacturing automobile body stampings for General Motors until the company went bankrupt in 2009. The Marathon itself however is most well known for being the taxi of choice of many American cities from the '50s to the '80s, and is often compared to the Austin FX4 in terms of iconicness.
Checker Marathon Cab is written on the base.
