'96 Nissan 180SX Type X

Description

The Nissan 180SX Type X (Japanese: ’96日産180 SXタイプX) is a JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) fastback sports coupe produced from 1988 to 1998 by Nissan Motors in Japan. Hot Wheels' casting represents the 3rd iteration of the 180SX; the one produced from 1996-1998. Three "levels" or trims of this car were produced: the Type X, Type S and Type R. The Type S was the non-Turbo. The Type R did not have the Sport trim of the Type X. The Type X was the Turbocharged model with all the sports trim (front lip, rear spoiler, side skirts , rear valance and 4-wheel steering).

Equipped with a 202 horsepower engine and having excellent performance, the 180SX is popular among Japanese Touge Racers (Touge or '峠' meaning 'Pass' in Japanese). The 180SX is still famed for its performance as a drift car and this reputation persists to this day. The 180SX and its cousin, the Silvia are both cars known in the drifting community worldwide and are widely sought after by enthusiasts. The Type X version of the 180SX ceased production in October 1997.

In popular culture, the Nissan 180SX was featured in the manga and anime series 'Initial D' in the 1990s and Early 2000s alongside the Toyota AE-86 Corolla, Nissan Skyline and later on in the series, a RHD Honda S2000.
