Description[]

The Porsche 917K is a sports prototype racing car manufactured by Porsche for use in endurance racing. Designed by Helmuth Bott, the 917K was a short-tailed version of the 917 family, competing from 1970 to 1971 with some revisions in the design. The 1970 917K was powered by a 4.5L 912 flat-12 producing 580 horsepower, mated to a 5-speed manual. A highly successful race car, the 917 won numerous major endurance races and was one of the first in a line of highly successful Porsche sports prototype race cars which would continue to dominate endurance racing in the following decades.

This casting features an opening engine hatch. The initial livery of this casting replicates chassis 917-023, the chassis used by Richard Attwood and Hans Herrmann to win the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans.
