Description[]
The Toyota 4Runner (read: "forerunner") is a mid-sized sport utility vehicle (originally compact) sold around the world since 1984, replacing the older Toyota Trekker which was essentially a Toyota Hilux converted into an SUV by Winnebago. Despite being manufactured in Japan at Toyota's Tahara Plant the car is mainly manufactured for export; the car was however sold in Japan until 2009 with the name Hilux Surf. The second generation 4Runner, introduced in 1989, featured a freshly-designed body on Hilux underpinnings although both cars still shared many parts. Facelifts occurred in 1993 and 1995, with production ending the same year.
