Description[]
The Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR is a GT1 class race car produced by AMG for Mercedes-Benz for the FIA GT Championship, at the time a motorsports and performance partner for Mercedes-Benz before becoming a subsidiary. Due to regulations at the time, a number of road-homologated versions had to be produced to allow the car to run in the series. The car was highly successful, winning both the 1997 Drivers' and Constructors' championships. The car was also used in the first two races of the 1998 FIA GT championship but was subsequently replaced by the equally successful CLK LM; both cars would dominate the season, winning every race in the GT1 category that year.
The initial livery of the casting resembles that of the #1 D2 Privat Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR which participated in the 1998 FIA GT Championship. It was driven by Bernd Schneider and Mark Webber, winning five races. The base of the initial release reads Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR. The casting is named the Mercedes-Benz CLK-LM in early listings.
This casting is not to be confused with the earlier Mercedes CLK-GTR, a Hot Wheels casting from 2001 that was released in the Red Rooster promotional lineup.
