Description[]
The Toyota 4Runner (read: "forerunner") is a mid-sized sport utility vehicle (originally compact) sold around the world since 1984, replacing the older Toyota Trekker which was essentially a Toyota Hilux converted into an SUV by Winnebago. Designed by Masaaki Ishiko, the third generation 4Runner was introduced in 1995 and sold until 2002, it being a significant redesign of the previous generation. Despite being manufactured in Japan at Toyota's Tahara Plant the car is mainly manufactured for export; the car was however sold in Japan until 2009 with the name Hilux Surf.
