Description[]
The 2000 Track Test Car is a Prototype Resin car made by Hot Wheels suggestively in the early 2000s. The name is given based on the original name it was given in the Original Post. Its is debated if the car was made to test tracks, or for promotional use in track packaging. It is also assumed to be an early prototype of a casting, that would eventually lead to the final product. Though it is unknown what that final car was.
What is known is based on the original link which can be found HERE notes that the base of the car had a chopped Muscle Tone chassis. The original post description reads:
"Up for auction is a one-of-a-kind hand assembled grey primer track test car from Hot Wheels. It was created from a prototype resin body (car thingmaker proto?) and attached to a chopped Muscle Tone chassis sometime around 2002. It was made for testing the new Robowheels track sets at the time. The wheels roll incredibly smooth and the open center area was used to add/remove weights so we could alter the performance. Its a bit beat up but I thought a collector might like it because of its test mule appeal. It has been in my personal collection for many years now in a climate controlled storage container since I left Mattel. Please note that I will hand sign a Letter of Authenticity describing the car and history and include this with the item. I was a Mattel Senior Hot Wheels designer for many years and I am now slowly selling off my collection piece by piece. Please note my feedback and rest assured that all of these Hot Wheels items are original and were created at Mattel in El Segundo, California either by myself and/or the Mattel model shop. You are getting the car from the source not a second or third party with no documentation. The quality will range from simple test paint models, Toy Fair samples, commercial models, to full detail painted prototypes. Most however were quick internal projects that had a very fast turnaround... (end of description)"
