The Porsche Cayenne (pronounced "kay-enn") is a luxury crossover SUV manufactured by Porsche since 2002. The first generation, internally designated the 9PA and styled by Steve Murkett, was Porsche's first entry into the SUV market; the Cayenne was Porsche's first off-road capable vehicle since the Junior and Super Junior tractors in the 1950s, the first Porsche with four doors and the first Porsche built with a V8 engine since the 928. The car's name was coined by German advertising agent Manfred Gotta and was launched to an initially mixed reception which warmed over time due to its good performance, handling and powerful engines; the first generation was discontinued in 2010. The Cayenne has since become one of Porsche's sales leaders.
