Hot Wheels Legends Tour 2021 Logo

Think your custom car’s got what it takes to become a Hot Wheels? The 2021 Hot Wheels Legends Tour presented by Mobil 1 kicks off this April and we’re searching for the next custom car to get miniaturized and immortalized into a Hot Wheels die-cast. ⁣⁣

This year the tour is going bigger than ever as we cross the globe to 14 countries from New Zealand, Australia and the U.S. just to name a few locations. We’re also excited to announce the tour will be back LIVE at Walmart in the United States in addition to our live stream shows. We can’t wait to see you all again at this year’s tour!

New for this year is the Ryu Asada Award, awarded for "excellence in design and storytelling" (the most creative vehicle), awarded at every stop of the Legends Tour; the award was created in honor of Asada who passed away in March 2021. The trophy features a Mighty K on it, the last design he saw to completion.

Ryu Asada Award[]

The 2021 Hot Wheels Legends Tour was unique for not only giving out a trophy, but two. As noted in Mattel's description of the show, for only 2021, Hot Wheels gave out the Ryu Asada Award for Excellence in Design and Storytelling in every show. The cars that won this award where not allowed into the final event to potentially become a Hot Wheels car. The one exception I could find was TJ Russell's Porsche Baja 911 who won his Ryu Asada Award in the El Segundo, CA on October 9th. Note Javier Covarrubias's 1974 Chevy Impala “Glasshouse” won this show as you can see in this blog, which you can see TJ Russell's Porsche Baja 911 was present at. It wasn't until TJ Russell won the Mobil 1 Fan Favorite on October 14, 2021 that he got his Twin Mill Legends Trophy, and a chance for his car to become a Hot Wheels car. Here is the Facebook post claiming that TJ Russell won the Mobil 1 Fan Favorite...with old pics from the El Segundo show as he holds the Ryu Asada Award? TJ Russell winning the Twin Mill Legends Trophy for winning the Mobil 1 Fan Favorite is an assumption.

There seems to be a missing list of those who won the Ryu Asada Award. But as you can see in this Facebook post, Rick Clark won the Award in the Michigan show on August 7th, 2021 and within the post you can see Josh Liem & Corinne Currie won the Twin Mill Legends Trophy with their 1975 Opel Manta. But winning the Ryu Asada Award did not give Rick Clark's a chance at becoming a Hot Wheels car.
