For the 20th anniversary Mattel launches twelve 20th Anniversary 3 packs (thirteen if you count the variant of the pack number 6) and a 20th Anniversary gift pack with 20 cars.

In the 20th anniversary 3 packs you can find 23 cars from the past mainlines: 1 from 1982, 1 from 1983, 3 from 1984, 3 from 1985, 7 from 1986 and 7 from 1987; along with these ones there are two "exclusives": Thunderstreak with a color scheme that will appear in the 1989 mainline and Turbo Streak with the 20th anniversary tampo, that could be found in a rare variant of the pack 6 and in the 20th anniversary gift pack. The main course of these 20th anniversary 3 packs is the free chrome and gold vehicles embossed with a striking 20th anniversary logo.

Then there is the 20th anniversary gift pack with 20 cars from the last six years: 1 from 1982, 2 from 1985, 5 from 1986, 4 from 1987 and 5 from the 1988; along with these ones there are three "exclusives": the '35 Classic Caddy with a color scheme that will appear in the 1989 mainline, Turbo Streak with the 20th anniversary tampo (here wrongfully named Thunderstreak) and the Rapid Transit (here named Team Bus) with the black windows that could be found only in this set and in the 1988 Pop 'n Play Set, school house.

The bizarre 20th anniversary Gift Pack

It seems that it's really hard to find a correct Gift Pack: the order of the vehicles isn't the one on the back card and there are some intruders. There are a gold Monster Vette and a gold Mercedes 540k (both from the 3 packs) instead of the '55 Chevy and the '37 Bugatti. Furthermore the Enforcer hasn't the olive green color scheme but the tan one (both of them appeared in the 1985 mainline).
