Description[]
A baggage car is a special type of passenger car used to carry baggage. These are often inserted into a passenger train as one of many types of specialized cars, including dining cars, mail cars and sleeper cars. Facilities inside a baggage car are often spartan, although often a restroom is included for railroad staff; staff may access the insides of the baggage cars through doors on the sides of the cars, akin to regular passenger cars. Passengers are not often allowed into baggage cars, although combine cars, cars with one section for passengers and another for baggage, also exist. Baggage cars are often inserted between a passenger train's motive power and the remainder of the train.
This model depicts a standard double door baggage car; this was the only passenger car manufactured for the line. The model features a rotary gear which allows a baggage hook to swing out; an included piece of baggage can then be attached to it and transported into the car. This piece of rolling stock has only be found in the Superrails Station playset; as such it has only been found lettered for Amtrak and presumably VIA Rail (Canadian release) in the first release and Santa Fe for the 1990 rerelease.
