Description[]
A boxcar is an enclosed railcar used to carry freight. While not the simplest kind of freight car used on a railroad, boxcars are usually considered the most versatile as they can carry most types of cargo. Boxcars feature side doors, used for loading and unloading cargo, while some even feature adjustable bulkheads for extremely large and heavy loads; this cargo was usually manually loaded but is now loaded with mechanical assistance such as through the use of forklifts. Various types of cargo that can be carried by boxcars include fruit, vegetables and refrigerated items through the use of specialized refrigerator cars.
This model depicts a standard double-door boxcar. The doors are cast open; inside is a loading area for a crate of goods to be loaded in.
