Import Tuners are cars either imported by individuals from overseas or imported cars sold from the showroom and later tuned and modified by owners.(Such cases sometimes can make a car no longer street-legal and in some cases result in owners being arrested for owning banned vehicles.) In Hot Wheels releases, Import Tuners have appeared over the years, taking on a form that replicates the cars many teenagers had back in the late 1990s and today. The Import-tuner culture is prominent in North America and has been since the 1980s. Hot Wheels released it's first Import-Tuner in 2000, the Seared Tuner and subsequent unlicensed castings of a similar nature have appeared as well since then.
