Very shortly after the Hot Wheels Legends series was released, in 2000 Hot Wheels created a separate Crew's Choice series for their NASCAR lines in 1:64, 1:43 and 1:24 scale, while also in parallel having their other 100% castings appear in the late 90s and early 2000s. What makes the Crew's Choice series unique versus the later released similar Hot Wheels Racing Selects series, is that all of the models in this series have removable bodies, revealing a detailed engine and chassis. A total of 18 different models were known to have been produced.
The Crew's Choice series was exclusively packaged in a small box decorated in the livery of the driver's car or in a black box for the larger scales, while the 1:64 Hot Wheels Racing Selects were sold in a clamshell package. A styrofoam case separately held the body and the chassis inside the box.
