Ferrari S.p.A is an Italian automobile manufacturer that produces high-end exotic sports cars, founded in 1939 by Enzo Ferrari. Hot Wheels has made many different Ferrari models, starting in 1970. The initial licensing agreement with Ferrari expired on 31 December 2014; it was mutually decided to not renew the agreement at the time. It is rumored that following the expiration of the licensing agreement any Ferrari-related toolings were destroyed. The exclusive rights to produce Ferrari toys would be passed to Hong Kong-based toy company May Cheong Group, owners of the Maisto and Bburago brands. Hot Wheels has previously borrowed castings from Maisto, as seen in the Red Rooster line.
Ferrari and Hot Wheels entered a new license agreement starting from 2025, in an agreement announced at the Nuremberg Toy Fair.
