Description[]
Hot Wheels: AcceleRacers was a computer-animated series of four films (Ignition, The Speed of Silence, Breaking Point, The Ultimate Race) created by Mainframe Entertainment in partnership with Mattel Entertainment. First aired on Cartoon Network’s Toonami, the AcceleRacers film series debuted on 8 January 2005.
Plot[]
The events of AcceleRacers happened two years after the events of the World Race film and followed Dr. Peter Tezla’s continued research into an ancient race of aliens called the Accelerons. After new discoveries and struggles over The Wheel of Power, he recruited ex-Highway 35 drivers and members of two rival racing gangs (Teku, Metal Maniacs) for competition against the evil Racing Drones and unknown Silencerz drivers in an attempt to obtain AcceleChargers from inter-dimensional Racing Realms.

Summary[]
Ignition[]
Dr. Tezla drove his car, Nitrium, up the center ramp of the Drone Headquarters (formerly Hot Wheels City). A single Racing Drone jet flew above him and took The Wheel of Power from its resting place. Dr. Tezla plummeted to the bottom where he attained multiple grave injuries. After being spotted by a RD-L1 drone in RD-08 with direct orders from Gelorum, he used an Emergency Driver Return prototype and escaped to the desert where Gig found him. The Teku and Metal Maniacs were preparing for a race between their leaders, Nolo Pasaro and Tork Maddox. Josef “Vert” Wheeler got into an argument with Nolo that was broken up by Kurt Wylde. Shortly after, Taro Kitano arrived in his '70 Plymouth Roadrunner followed by Tork in Hollowback and Mark Wylde in Spine Buster. Both leaders took off as Nolo had a post traumatic flashback of Tork’s involvement in the death of his brother and former Teku leader, Tone Pasaro. The race was quickly sabotaged by Markie, who forced both cars off the road. After all three drivers crashed and recovered, Gig briefed the others on the Racing Drones accomplishments. All racers besides Tork and Nolo reunited with Brian “Zone” Kadeem at the old headquarters, Tezla’s Cube, and proceeded to followed him to the newly constructed AcceleDrome base. A hologram of Dr. Tezla’s face appeared and explained The Wheel of Power having a newfound use as a portal to the interdimensional Racing Realms. Inside the meeting room, Lani Tam and Gig further explained the use of a hologram in place of The Wheel that resonated with the same emanations as the stolen physical copy. Interrupted by the Storm Realm opening, all drivers hastily filled the tanks in their vehicles with Nitrox2 booster fuel, performed last-minute modifications, and drove through winding track loops into the holographic portal. The Storm Realm began with a vertical free-fall through an abyssal electric storm and eventual track that led to a horizontal straightaway, downward spiral, and loop. Lani directed all drivers via their intercom systems to keep up their speed when following through with loops, preceding a near crash by Monkey. Shortly after, Kurt was hit by a stray lightning bolt from an Acceleron device that temporarily disabled and cracked the windshield of his Sling Shot. Gelorum learned of the human drivers through a Recon Drone and ordered their destruction to an RD-L1 driving an RD-08 alongside a small army of RD-06 vehicles. The leader turned around, equipped an AcceleCharger to see through the fog, and transformed its car into a Slam Ram HyperPod. The drone launched a battering ram at the human drivers, nearly causing Mark Wylde and Kadeem to fly off the track. Taro swerved out of the way and slammed into another Acceleron device. The stray RD-L1 found a Dragster HyperPod that gave it immense speed in its original direction. Monkey was hit by an energy ball launched from the RD-08 that completely destroyed his Rollin' Thunder. After getting dragged in his car seat on the edge of the track by Mark Wylde, he climbed into the rear of Spine Buster. Vert got into an conflict with the same drone, but fell off the track onto a lower section due to the its use of another AcceleCharger. Kadeem, who was at the lead of the human drivers, dodged an energy ball from an RD-06 that hit another in front of him. Taro rammed the last drone soldier with his '70 Plymouth Roadrunner and passed Kadeem. The RD-06 then attached itself to Kadeem’s Krazy 8s with a grappling hook while the previous RD-08 caught up to them. The RD-L1 drone sent both flying off the edge. Vert saw Kadeem activate his parachute from the lower track section and shot his grappling hook to no avail. Kadeem plummeted into the abyss after his parachute was destroyed by an energy ball.
The Speed of Silence[]
Dr. Tezla was in the middle of a prophetic dream where Gelorum and the Racing Drones had attained all of the AcceleChargers and found the AcceleDrome. He was woken by Gig, who offered Dr. Tezla his biosuit. All drivers had gathered in a meeting where Lani, Gig, and Dr. Tezla announced the addition of reverse engineered tires and E.D.R. devices to their vehicles. After multiple conflicts where Taro questioned why Kadeem didn’t have an E.D.R. among other issues, the drivers began working on their cars.
Breaking Point[]
Vert was overlooking the coast near his hometown after having left the AcceleDrome in defeat, thinking the others were better off without him due to his inability to save Kadeem and win an AcceleCharger. Lani and Taro were reviewing Karma’s onboard camera video from the Ice Realm and found a glitch that had erased part of the recording, which led them both to question what had actually taken place.
The Silencerz were introduced in the midst of preparation for the next Realm. Six unknown drivers proceeded down tubes that led to seating positions on multiple vehicle chassis. Liquid metal configured into the body of Accelium among other designs. The stealth, attacking, cloaking, and defense capabilities of Iridium were tested by several scientists before the full team departed into their hologram portal.
The Ultimate Race[]

Piles of junk crash down on the track, threatening to crush drivers underneath. There's also problems with piles of debris on the road, magnetized lifters, compactors, wrecking balls, and a big metal fire-breathing dinosaur known as the Mechanized Destroyer. The Accelerons designed this realm to test a driver's ability to hit the apex of a turn.
- Ruins Realm: The Ruins Realm is a Racing Realm with an atmosphere that evokes Easter Island and Stonehenge. The Ruins Realm is peppered with colossal statues and stone buildings. With an ancient marble track that threatens to collapse at any time, drivers must hone their skills if they want to win.

- Racing Drones HQ: The final stop in the ultimate race is the Racing Drones Headquarters: a vast, tangled ruin of what was once Hot Wheels City. Strange machines and mysterious deadly challenges lurk around every turn. Only the best and most skilled drivers will be able to compete here. There are many dangerous paths and every turn lies a new challenge for the racers. They have to choose the right line if they want to make it out alive.
- The Sphere: In the race between Vert and Gelorum, after both racers have passed all the previously encountered realms, they entered a place where the track is surrounded by white light. The show gives little information about that place, except that the winner is supposed to win a chance to race against the Acceleron at the end of the track.

Cancellation[]
Due to a combination of poor product sales, marketing, and failure to keep up with competing brands, the AcceleRacers Series was finally laid to rest in 2005. Concepts from this lineup went on to influence the later Stunt Strikers film project, Speed Racer action figure series, and BattleRacers series.
