Custom Mustang

Description[]

The Custom Mustang is a Hot Wheels casting designed by Harry Bradley, and was based on the the 1967 Ford Mustang. The Custom Mustang debuted in the 1968 Basic Car line as part of the Original 16 castings.

The Cars were packaged with a 'Collector's Button'.

The original tool was only used in the 1968 mainline and was never used again. The Custom Mustang tool was recreated in 1994 for the Vintage Series II.

Note* Newer versions of the Mustang Stocker also use the Custom Mustang name

The Hot Wheels Matchbox Mustang[]

Before Mattel could create Hot Wheels, they needed an idea of what they wanted to make. This Prototype above is actually a Matchbox Mustang Fastback used to test the Spectraflame colors (in this case Orange) as well as the look of their new Redline Wheels, something that was never seen at the time, including the original Matchbox Mustang Fastback. More info of this Prototype can be found HERE! The results of this Prototype helped Mattel launch the Original Sixteen, and possibly the Custom Mustang casting.
