Ford Transit Supervan

The Ford Transit Supervan was a promotional vehicle built by Ford of Britain in 1971, first publicly shown off at the 1971 Easter meeting at Brands Hatch. The vehicle was built by Terry Drury in his own workshop, using a stock Transit body shell (except with flared fenders) and mating it with a Ford GT40's engine, chassis and transmission. Although it was claimed to be able to do 168 mph (270 km/h) it suffered from body lift due to the "crude" aerodynamics when demonstrated using drag starts. With the introduction of the Mark II Transit in 1978, the Transit Supervan was retired from promotional duties.
