Galileo was an American robotic space probe intended to study Jupiter and its moons. It was delivered into orbit on 18 October 1989 by Space Shuttle Atlantis. After gravitational assist flybys of Venus and Earth, Galileo arrived at Jupiter on 7 December 1995. Last contact was made with the Galileo on 21 September 2003, when it entered a controlled entry into Jupiter and burned up in its atmosphere.
