General Mills Salute to Richard Petty

General Mill's Salute to Richard Petty was a set of 18 vehicles produced in 2004. The set included all promotional vehicles produced for General Mills which were previously avaliable during that year, including one 'Bugles' promo, five 'Pop Secret' promos, ten cereal promos and two Volkswagen Drag Bus mail-in promos.

All vehicles (with the exception of the Volkswagen Drag Bus) had opaque black windows with no interior.

Project Green Flag[]

In a October - December 2019 Newsletter article, Hot Wheels & General Mills worked on a project internally dubbed "Project Green Flag" which ended up becoming the General Mills promotion for the "Salute to Richard Petty" series. The article goes into details about how tricky it was to to ship loose Hot Wheels into cereal boxes, and the creation of the drop baggies that the cars where into to protect them from the cereal, and vise versa, protect the cereal from paint contamination.

The article shows off Prototypes as well. Most notably indicating that in the early stages, Purple Passion & the '65 Chevy Impala where to be apart of the series, but ended up being dropped.
