Hot Wheels City is one of three playset lines introduced in 2018 with the revamp of the Hot Wheels toy line. As part of the Growing Up with Hot Wheels chart, Hot Wheels City playsets are intended for ages 3 through 8, with the Stunt Tracks line intended as the next progression. The sets feature a range of themes, from more traditional city buildings to anthropomorphic animals and cartoonish elements. Numerous earlier sets which were deemed suitable for this age group were also assimilated into the City lineup.
The sets are similar in concept to the older City Sets from 2009-2013, as well as Hot Wheels World sets from 1997-2005, both of which featured city-style sets which could connect to each other.
