Hot Wheels Customs was an online-exclusive Hot Wheels line that let customers produce a personalized Hot Wheels car that ran from 2011-2012.
There were five available castings to choose from with existing tampos. At launch, the Dairy Delivery and Purple Passion were available to choose from. While in the Spring of 2011, the Hiway Hauler, School Busted, and Surfin' School Bus becomes available for purchase. After customers choose one of the five castings, they can upload an image for the casting. In the next step, customers can choose a frame for the image and position it within the frame. Then they can add a message up to 18 characters long. Finally, they can choose various packaging options for their vehicle, such as a “Happy Birthday” message.
The cars were priced at $7.99 each plus shipping and packaging, and there is an order quantity limit of 50 per car all customers can create.
After the line was discontinued in December 2012, four of the models without tampos were available for purchase on the HotWheelsCollectors.com website under the series "HW Designs". The website now redirects to the official Hot Wheels website.
