Hot Wheels Railroad was a very short-lived series of model trains intended to be compatible with Hot Wheels vehicles. These were produced from 1983 to 1985 and were approximately 1/64 scale. The trains were advertised as being "kid-powered" and were compatible with a proprietary type of Hot Wheels track. All locomotives were based on real-life trains and featured authentic liveries mimicking real-life railroads.
Steam, diesel and electric locomotives were made available, along with freight cars and cabooses. These coupled to each other using a fork-styled coupler. The locomotives were available singly, in bundles and in larger playsets such as the Freight Yard and the Superrails Station. The trains featured plastic bodies and were manufactured in Hong Kong; the tracks were manufactured in the United States and were made in straight, curve, switch and transition (track to floor) pieces. Most rolling stock feature some form of special feature.
Despite the discontinuation of the series, the trains lived on until the 1990s with the Sto & Go Trucks & Trains Freight Yard, City Trains To Go, and Superrails Station, essentially a rerelease of the old Freight Yard, Trains to Go, and Superrails Station playsets. Some products were sold in Canada, with the line being marketed under the name Le Chemin de Fer (lit. "the railroad").
