Missing Classic '32 Ford Vicky[]

After looking through each of the images available, i noticed that the Vicky i have is not one on the wiki, or at least without an image. This Vicky was bought by my parent and neither of us remember which series it belongs to.

The following info is etched on the bottom

[ MATTEL INC 1968 | THAILAND | '32 FORD VICKY ]

Hope this helps to provide another version for the page.

Wiki update has broken all the pages[]

Since wikia migrated to a new server, or whatever they did, you can no longer scroll left and right on a page. This means that for pages with too many columns, the images get cut off (see image). I don't know how to fix that.

Example1

Hello I'm new here anyone know about the early 2000s barbie coke skateboard that used hotwheels wheels?

Also I'm wondering why the Australian 2004 I think it was light up mcds promo lotus that is supposed to be green, is yellow in Australia. I bought an Australian one and it had yellow paint rather than green.

Different person here: That got fixed it seems, but my question is why we haven't put the photo column somewhere other than the leftmost spot. Every single casting page needs to scroll over just to see the picture. Why not put the Toy Number, notes, or country to the left of the picture, so no one has to scroll to see what's arguably the most important part? Snikle, 7-31-2022.

Unfound Car[]

On the page for the '08 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR, a 2012 model of the car is labeled as a Multipack Exclusive, but having looked through all Multipacks, I cannot find it. If i could get some help, I believe there may be more cars that are not shown in the category under which they fall.

I believe this may just be a problem of somebody having forgotten to place it's pack in the page. I am unable to do this, as I got this car years ago, and no longer have the pack in which it came.

I also have found this with a 2015 versions of Fish'd n' Chip'd and Monoposto, and a 2012 coloring or the AMC Javelin AMX.

same with not just my car but the entire collection its the rat rods. the car is 2007 Hot Wheels Rat Rods Green 1967 VW Bus Pickup 1/50 Volkswagen single cab the car number is M4294

Base Codes[]

Matchbox has this very useful numbering system where every modern car has a MBxxxx on its baseplate. It's a little bit inconsistent as some almost identical castings have different codes, and sometimes different versions of the same casting have same code. But mostly it is very useful in identifying models.

For HotWheels it is a lot more complicated. For example: '65 Mustang Hardtop (2006) has 5908 on it's baseplate, on its wiki it has J2831 as Number, which I suppose is the Toy Number of the first release. But the baseplate number is the Toy Number for '65 Mustang Convertible. '65 Mustang Convertible doesn't have a baseplate number at all, but it has it's full name written, the hardtop doesn't have the name.

Another example is 1968 Mustang ('Tooned), the Number is 56386, which is the Toy Number of the first release, but my version has DTX47 which is the Toy Number from 2017.

I'm going through my collection which is not very large (about 500 models), and I'm trying to make sense of it. Wouldn't it be nice if we could make a table that would link baseplates to models as determined by this wiki?

This is how I imagine it will look like:

Baseplate Number Baseplate Name Copyright First Release Wiki Number Wiki Link
N/A '65 Mustang Convertible 1983, 2013 1984 5908 link
5908 N/A 1983 2006 J2831 link
DTX47 1968 Mustang 2002, 2016 2003 56386 link
FJV78 2018 Ford Mustang GT 2017 2018 FJV78 link

What do you guys think? The essential columns to identify the casting are those relating to the baseplates (Number, Name, Copyright) and the the Wiki Link. The rest are just nice to have. We can drop them or we can add some more. Some columns that I find interesting are: Make, Model, Model Generation, Designer, Premium Only (Y/N), Fantasy (Y/N), Tooned (Y/N). Just a few ideas.

If my idea has enough support I can add baseplates for my 500 models in the next few weeks, but I cannot do it alone.

Let me know what you think.

  • 4/19 Edit: I created the Baseplates page with the 1st generation mustangs in my collection

User:Panama2005 Red Auburn 852 Hong Kong Whitewall exists?[]

User:StemBolt74 Still a Treasure Hunt?[]

Found this Corvette today and did not realize it was a Treasure Hunt until I checked this site. Does it still count even if it is missing the "TH" and just chalk this up to a printing error?

Unfortunately this is not a Super Treasure Hunt, it's missing the spectraflame paint and the Yellow RR8SP wheels. Check out the '69 Corvette Racer and also this year Treasure Hunt. Tonny6660 (talk)

Vette Water Colour Found in a box full of hot wheels, used to change colour under hot or cold water, not sure if it does that any more. Any idea what series or even year it could be from?

Might be from the 2010 Color Shifters series. The page for that year and series says the Warm color was red, so I believe it's from that particular year (the only other appearance in Color Shifters from the Corvette Stingray has the warm color as yellow, which does not match up with the photo) JoeBee, the writer and reviewer. User:Relentless_Flashbackin' needs authorization to create a page about Snake Mountain Challenge[]

Usually in the box there was a Cannonade called Snake Busters and there were three variations, as you can see on the car page, but I discovered that there's a really rare version: instead of the Cannonade there's a green Flat_Out_442 Can I create a page about the track including these 4 cars? Thank you.

New Models for 2016 and 2017[]

I found the Skate Brigade in the First released category and moved it to the mainline Category:New for 2016 since it was released in the mainline Daredevils series. That made 51, and I couldn't find a single example with the New for 2016 badge - anybody know what happened? I also keep coming up with only 49 Category:New for 2017. Was Skate Brigade suppose to be in 17 and got moved up? Mach 5 (talk) 23:07, January 8, 2019 (UTC)

Series cars hidden in Multipacks[]

I'm getting some dissent on this and now looking for input from other collectors.

Cars with tampo schemes matching a series in the mainline but not released on a card.

Personally I don't think Mattell accidentally produces these cars with a series tampo theme for multipacks. In the past, many cars from the mainline have appeared in 5 packs, some from series.

I know when I collect a tampo(series) that I like, I'll want it in all colors/wheels done, so I would think there are other collectors that would want to know too.

I came to this realization, and started putting them on the series pages when I was building the series pages and came to the red editions - (I have also been including them on the series pages).

I've been putting notes in for the reds and multipacks.

What do you think - included or not? Mach 5 (talk) 16:06, January 1, 2019 (UTC)

I would include it! ~~~~

I agree. I like collecting Futurismo. I saw a red re-color on eBay with a previous (previous to 2019) tampo scheme. I didn't like the idea of paying eBay prices for it, hoping to find it at retail. I got lucky and found it at a Kroger store, in a 9-pack (will post photo later). To the point: I don't see the red one in the listing for that casting. Once I get a photo uploaded I would like to include it in the casting list.

What I noticed in those multipacks (10 or 20 cars): There are some mainline vehicles mixed in. Also there are some repaints from previous mainlines, one case is the Mazda RX-7. Tonny6660 (talk)

Code 3[]

Should we allow Code 3 cars on here? Theyre not exactly official hot wheels, theyre more like mass-produced customs? and theyre very hard to keep up to date with. anybody have any opinons? Reece

I would not spend a minute of my time adding data on these. We should just mention them (they are) and maybe add an external link to a website dedicated to them. But to maintain a HWW up to the standards we've set? Not this lazy old dude! 1steditionman (talk)
FWIW - I thought I remembered seeing a few castings with code 3 sections. If I find them I'll throw some links here. Maybe they can be posted on the talk side of the page with peoples customs? Just a thought. Mach 5 (talk) 02:52, December 21, 2018 (UTC)
Yes, I've seen pages with code 3 sections too. Maybe we can make a Code 3 page where it's just a big gallery and each picture will have a link to the casting page and where the code 3 came from. Then remove the Code 3 sections from the casting pages and make a note at the bottom of the page something like "this casting has been used as a Code 3 several times." Thoughts?--Reeceracing (talk) 03:06, December 21, 2018 (UTC)
Or maybe do a living Blog write up about them. That's as far as I'd go :-) .1steditionman (talk) December 21, 2018 (UTC)

McDonalds page needs major updating[]

Hi guys I am very new to this and technology so i hope i am doing this right or the right area to put this. I have been a long time Hot Wheel fan. I noticed that the McDonalds page is missing a lot of pictures of cars and dont even include any sets from 2014 and up with no info on 2010 or 2011. have almost all of the Hot Wheels from McDonald cars from 1991 to 2017 in very nice condition with decals. I would be willing to take pictures of what ever you guys need if someone would be willing to upload them on this site. I would if i understood how to work and edit this site.

Thank you

AMC/American Motors Corporation/American Motors Cars[]

After working on the 1969 AMX and Custom AMX I noticed 3 different categories for what appears to be the same. Anybody know a valid reason to have Category:AMC Cars, Category:American Motors Cars and Category:American Motors Corporation Cars?

And could all these be grouped as the same model?

  1. Xploder alternate name for AMX/2
  2. Warpath alternate name for AMX/2
  3. Road Torch alternate name for AMX/2
  4. Redliner alternate name for AMX/2

Would category:AMC AMX cars or category:AMX cars be a better name?

Mach 5 (talk) 20:17, November 23, 2018 (UTC)

I would group (merge) them all as either "Category: AMC Cars" or "American Motors Cars". And all those AMX's into: "AMC Javelin AMX", then do the distinction that the casting has been also named such and such... or do separate tables for each different name, but all in the same page. Then we would have to create a way for searchers with castings of different names, to be able to reach the new page with all the models merged. 1steditionman (talk)

Links to yearly lists and categories[]

To be clearer... all redirect pages to yearly categories are in place and working. All entries that aren't basic releases can now have a link for the year - 1968 - 2019. Help getting all links in place would be appreciated. Mach 5 (talk) 18:20, September 1, 2018 (UTC)

Upcoming New Real Rider Wheels[]

I messaged Jimmy (marketing director) on Instagram and asked what the new wheels were which are going to be used on the Team Transport Volkswagen & Porsche set. Stunt Track Challenge Game Break Vehicles Found[]

I just recently found out the models for the Game Breaks for Stunt Track Challenge, from Jurassic Jam to Lava Land. These models are...

2 Cool (Hardnoze)

Hyperliner (Blings)

Silhouette (Fatbax)

Shift Kicker (Tooned)

Grandy Lusion (Hardnoze)

Twin Mill (Hardnoze)

I sure hope those are right because the top-down view in the Game Breaks make it difficult to see the models from just the top view.

New Users need assistance with editing[]

I just had to mentor a new user/editor about his recent edits. He's been adding a lot of superfluous information to series pages. These edits seem to have a lot of effort put into them and I think he means well, but they do not fit the precedent set on other pages on this wiki and are going to be a lot of work to undo. --Reeceracing (talk) 08:43, April 20, 2018 (UTC)

Galleries Not Working Anymore?[]

I have seen on some pages that pictures in Galleries do not show up anymore? This has been changing without touching the gallery code. Does anybody know how to fix this? Reeceracing (talk), April 16, 2018 (UTC)

Strange things on pages[]

Has anyone else noticed strange things happening to the code on random pages? The Today on the 2018 list random photos where missing and an error was displayed. I replaced some but others will not allow a photo to be entered or replaced. So I place the default back. Also seems when certain pages are edited it rewrites the code a bunch of times. "3 different admins have made edits since this post started and not one has stopped by to address these issues - sad." What you fail to realize that if we get no notifications about this thread, how are we to know anything about it? Since you notified me personally on my user talk page, NOW I'm aware of it. Just because you post somewhere doesn't mean we get notifications about it. How do you expect us to learn about these issues, osmosis? Kenny HaarFager (talk) 23:00, March 4, 2018 (UTC)
Not having a go at ya Kenny, but I check the Recent Wiki Activity, that's how I saw this thread. --Reeceracing (talk) 23:07, March 4, 2018 (UTC)
I also thought, considering how prominently this page is featured in the menu, at least 1 admin would've had this page on their watchlist. I didn't think I had to address these issues with all the admins to get things addressed. And why the need to be so snarky? I'm just having a hard time keeping up with all the bad edits. That David Marconi has made too many for me to catch them all. Mach 5 (talk) 23:23, March 4, 2018 (UTC)
I would have thought you'd seen my previous reply to this same kind of request, Mach 5. Oh, you didn't? See how hard it is to respond to things when you don't get notified that they even exist? Yes, I'll agree - there are a lot of bad edits. Newer users don't seem to care about anything such as learning how to edit properly first. They just want to do things their own way, irrespective of the standard that's been set around here for many years. Sometimes I get so tired of fixing bad edits that I don't have any time to do things I'd like to do on here. HaarFager (talk) 04:35, March 5, 2018 (UTC)
I'm just not understanding why you are being so snip with me. It doesn't look like you've been doing much around here lately by your edit history. Some of the mistakes have been happening for months. And I think it has more to do with the way the visual editor works than will fully doing things wrong like you accusing everyone of doing. Mach 5 (talk) 04:52, March 5, 2018 (UTC)
Just because I don't make an edit doesn't mean I don't check up on other people's edits. I do that practically every day. You need to quit being so snarky with me when you don't know what's going on and what I do. HaarFager (talk) 15:08, March 5, 2018 (UTC)
Sorry to have bothered you. Next time there's anything I think needs admin assistance, I'll remember not to ask you. Mach 5 (talk) 00:54, March 6, 2018 (UTC)

Hi Kenny, the No Wiki code is an automatic code that happens when someone types an apostrophe using the visual editor. When I make an edit, a banner appears at the top of the page and "awards" me points. Then I went back and added 3 measley categories and was "awarded" 50 points. That's just not right! Kenny HaarFager (talk) 08:05, July 21, 2017 (UTC)

Have a nice day! ᵗʰᵉʰºᵗʷʰᵉᵉˡˢᵍᵘʸ₉₉ (ᵗᵃˡᵏ!) (ͨºⁿᵗʳ'ᵇˢ) ([[Special:Editcount/Thehotwheelsguy99|Special:Editcount/Thehotwheelsguy99 + ᵉᵈ'ᵗˢ!]]) 13:47, October 1, 2015 (UTC)

Ex-Corgi Casting?[]

Hello again, I was rifling through an old box and I came across an unidentified toy car inside. Best I could tell, it's based off a 1990s BMW 4-door Saloon car. The base simply says that the item was made in China, but there is no indication of who manufactured it or when it was manufactured. Based on my knowledge of die-cast vehicles, I am certain that this particular casting is not made by Matchbox, Maisto or Majorette. The design seems similar to Late 1980s a Corgi castings and later Auto City castings. I am really curious for answers.

That looks like some off-brand car you can buy at the dollar store for $.25. ᵗʰᵉʰºᵗʷʰᵉᵉˡˢᵍᵘʸ₉₉ (ᵗᵃˡᵏ!) (ͨºⁿᵗʳ'ᵇˢ) ([[Special:Editcount/Thehotwheelsguy99|Special:Editcount/Thehotwheelsguy99 + ᵉᵈ'ᵗˢ!]]) 17:46, September 30, 2015 (UTC)
If you could show what the wheels look like, that might be helpful to identify the company that made it. Kenny HaarFager (talk) 19:05, June 30, 2017 (UTC)
That's what had me asking, the wheels are the same Corgi type as on the Mercedes-Benz Bus, did any other die-cast maker acquire that wheel type after Hot Wheels did? Though, the metal that I remember was on it when I was a kid is long gone. Did any corgi castings end up in the hands of Chinese toy makers like Suntoys Co. or Yatming?

--JDM My Ride (talk) 20:35, June 30, 2017 (UTC) 二千十七年六月三十日星期五

Yes, those sure look like Corgi wheels to me! From what I've heard, Mattel bought the Corgi castings sometime in the 1980's or 1990's and I would have thought they would have written it into the contract that they would have gotten all the castings. So, I'm not sure what's going on in your case. Is there any way you could post some clearer pictures? The one's you posted are too blurry to make out much detail. Kenny HaarFager (talk) 23:29, June 30, 2017 (UTC)
I was just looking up Corgi on the internet and came across an interesting tidbit found here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corgi_Toys#Legacy
It says that "some" of the moulds were moved to China. So there could have been a division of the moulds and what Mattel bought were only those still at the English factory. Kenny HaarFager (talk) 23:41, June 30, 2017 (UTC)

1964 Buick Riviera Error?[]

IMG 3497

i just got my 64 riviera but i noticed that a part of base is not in the right place.(it's like this on both sides of car) i searched on internet to see if other cars are like the one i have or not but it wasn't. so what is this? is this a error?

one more thing : rear and front bumper are in the right place

Hello, Mehdi-j! It sounds to me like you have a car with the base of another car. ᵗʰᵉʰºᵗʷʰᵉᵉˡˢᵍᵘʸ₉₉ (ᵗᵃˡᵏ!) (ͨºⁿᵗʳ'ᵇˢ) 00:47, September 24, 2015 (UTC)

The base is from the correct car, but it was stuck behind one of the sides. Or it was warped at the factory. Without a picture from the bottom it's hard to say. Stephan3321 (talk) 06:59, September 24, 2015 (UTC)

New Shelby GR-1?[]

Hello guys! Im kinda new here. I made this account to update the Shelby GR-1 Concept page. I found a new variation and there are no other images or information of it on the internet.

The car is gloss black with metallic green stripe going through the centre (front) and the side skirt. There are also thin white lines that accompany the green ones. The base is the same green as on the body but is plastic. Wheels are PR5 with white outline. Series: 2015 Track Stars: HW Race. Number 178/250 (international card).

Also how do I edit that page? Im on my phone..

UPDATE: its made in malaysia btw. The base says so. Lol

Jazzed Up[]

Calling all users on the Hot Wheels Wiki, and especially Administrators: I've been looking at the homepage and it doesn't have a single Hot Wheels car there to represent at a glance what we're all about. I think it needs one representative car so that people who come across this site will know imnmediately what we stand for. What do others think? And what would be your vote for that one represetative car to display there? My vote would be the Spectraflame Blue Custom Otto - the car that was on every card when Hot Wheels were first released and we grew to love. Kenny HaarFager (talk) 08:41, July 20, 2015 (UTC)

For Sale In Canada?[]

WIN 20150714 212839

I found this little gem at a Wal-Mart in Canada in the fall of 2014, I recognized from the Page Monster Dairy Delivery that it was a version supposedly only sold in the Czech Republic, but there it was. I don't know whether the thing was intentionally imported to Canada or if it was accidentally imported to the wrong country. I would really love to find out whether this variation was intended for sale in Canada or not.

I don't have an answer, but I hope someone will have one. This is fascinating stuff! Kenny HaarFager (talk) 03:41, July 15, 2015 (UTC)
This car was available everywhere...there are no international-only exclusives as of now. This is a test 86 (talk)

One Of A Kind Find[]

Here Is a One of a Kind Find.............

I was at Target today ( 7-16-13 ) and I find this right on the peg! It's from 2002 and had to have been lost in the inventory room for 11 years! It's the "Hot Rod Magazine " series but the collector # 87 is all wrong.

This is actually from the 1990 model series, I have one in my collection - toy# 2173, the #87 is correct.

I examined it again, and the numbers match. But this is a Hot Rod Magazine edition from 2002, Hot Rod logo and paint scheme. It probably got mis packaged in a #87 card instead of its assigned #107.

This is odd...[]

Hi i need to you guys explain me about some cars '32 Ford DeliverySpeed_SharkAmbulance (1989)'57 T-Bird (1978)'37 Bugatti'33 Ford Roadster, i have them ( pretty used but still good) but i found that all of them doesnt have name in the base and they are legit i swear, also the release year is 1 year back, for example the ambulance originally is form 1989 and for me says 1988 is that some kind of prototype or someting or they are unlegit

i will list the color variants i have

the '37 bugatti: body: blue, wheels:gold 5DOT, base unpainted metal, glass: transparent

the '89 ambulance: body silver, wheels: 5SP, base: chromed plastic, tampo:fire coming from the font going to the back , ambulance written on the sides and a small tampo on the front door sating hotwheels final run 2006

'32 ford roadster, 2002 variant

'57 T-bird 1978: body: blue metalflake. base: chrome plastic, wheels:chrome 5SP tampo: hotwheels logo on the sides strarting from the front wheel, a 7 next to the side window, the top tampo is pretty unpaintet but i can see it says hotwheels, (a sign) a 7 and some white letters on the corner

'32 ford delivery: 2004 variant

speeed shark: body: black metalflake , base: chrome plastic, tampo red flames, interior: red-chromed wheels

also i live in mexico so... thats some kind of package error or what?

Luis 64 bits (talk) 03:51, November 21, 2013 (UTC)

i have 67 camaro just like you say. first release of the car is 83 but the base says it's from 82. i think it's because they were preparing cars one year before release ~~~~

hello,

No. Many of my cars do not actually have a name on the base, it seems that the biggest reason is because there is not enough space after putting on the base details. I do not have a reason for the different numbers, but your's seems valid.

Hello[]

2013 Hot Wheels Chevy Camaro Special Edition - Defect Questions []

Hi everyone, I'm very new at collecting and had some questions concerning metal defects and print defects on the vehicles. I was wondering how important is it for collecting, if it's even worth collecting cars with defects, and are they of any value? I attached an image of the 2013 HW Camaro as an example.

2013 HOTWHEEL CAMARO

2013 HW Camaro Special Edition - defects

Note the top car has the "Camaro" and "Hot Wheels" logos printed twice. The bottom car has an extra "chunk" of metal between the rear finder and tire. (there's a higher resolution image in the gallery). Thanks for your time! Njletteer (talk) 00:45, December 20, 2012 (UTC)

Hi Guys,

I would say both are defects vs variations,

double tamps is printing mistake and the chunk of metal is a peice of flash that didn't get cleaned off.

If you go to Hot Wheels collectors.com you may get more info. But I believe varations can be found more than once and defect are individual. There are people that collect both defect and variation and people that just collect Camaros, no matter what.Abe lugo (talk) 16:56, January 4, 2013 (UTC)

I'm confused?[]

Hi everyone, I recently found one of my old Hot Wheels cars, a Fish'd and Chip'd. Interested in it, I looked it up on the wiki where it said the earliest version of this car was 2003, whereas underneath this one it says 2002, I looked the car up and there whereas no other cars like it, one similar but non exactly the same. Is this a prototype or is it just a defect? Unrelated to this I also have a golden '57 Chevy that I can't seem to find anything similar to, exactly the same as above

Welcome to Hot Wheels Wiki, As far as patent date codes go, they are cast into the base. That is the year the cast is made and patented. This happens a year before the cast is released. There is alot of things that must come together before it is released. That cast may be able to run for 10 years with the Original cast date. Example: 2002 cast is made. It would be released to the public in 2003. That cast could run for another 5 to 10 or even more years with date on the bottom, with color and tampo changes. This is more of a information site, you may want to try a forum to learn a bit. HotWheelsCollectors.com is one place.Flyin colors (talk) 14:17, February 24, 2013 (UTC)

As far as not seeing a car on here, it is a collective wiki. A collective of many bringing you what knowledge they have, not all models will be here. Your '57 chevy looks like a silver series !! from 1996, hard to tell with that pictureFlyin colors (talk) 14:32, February 24, 2013 (UTC)
The Fish'd & Chip'd that you posted appears to be from 2005. The tampos are simply removed. That year is the only time this casting appeared with 10SP wheels and grey as a paint color.
The '57 Chevy you posted appears to be from a 5-pack released in 2005 "Shiners". It's the only time that is has been released with a gold body and 5SP wheels. Hope this helps.

Updates for Children's Museum exhibit

Hello. It looks like it's been awhile since this forum was active, but I thought I'd check in anyway. The Children's Museum of Indianapolis is about to open an exciting exhibit, Hot Wheels For Real, that includes some fullsize 1:1 Hot Wheels. We also have a lot of images and other media coming in surrounding this exhibit. Would it be OK to update the appropriate articles with this new information and media? I'd like to abide by the community protocols. Thanks so much. LoriLee 20:22, May 16, 2012 (UTC)

I think it would be quite appropriate to post images of 1:1 Hot Wheels in the proper pages. I'd like seeing them and the precedent is already set that we have pictures like this. So, I don't see anything at all wrong with adding some more. Kenny HaarFager 22:16, May 16, 2012 (UTC)
Great! Thanks for the quick reply. LoriLee 13:06, May 17, 2012 (UTC)

More Questions[]

Hi, I just had a few more questions, please let me know if I shouldn't be posting these here, but firstly, you guys have done a great job on building this site, glad to find such a resource, these type of sites are really the crown jewels of the internet itself.

I've noticed around the site, links to mattel or HWC or broken or incomplete, I have to think this is on purpose, just wondering exactly why, and I don't see rules posted anywhere about using relevant external links. I did a search, I couldn't find anything about it. Just seems so silly to have the HWC banner at the bottom of the mainpage, but it doesn't link to them. And to put Mattel.com but not hyperlink it....?

Secondly, I've noticed that we're keen here on not stealing images. Now what exactly happens to an Image after it is posted on Wikia, I've seen an Image I posted recently in a brand now eBay A100 ad, with my mark + name still on it and everything, stolen right from this site with his site web address branded on it now. Any comments on that? ZahaDoom 05:50, June 8, 2011 (UTC)

Those are good questions and I'll try to answer with what I've found to be true on here. If you've found broken links to external sites, I don't think it's intentional at all. But, many commercial websites are continually updating their pages and sometimes this makes old links no longer the same and therefore, invalid. As to hyperlinking things like HWC or Mattel, we members of this site, not the owners of Wiki, but the regular members who do ALL THE WORK AROUND HERE, were under the assumption that this was to be a not-for-profit site. So, when possible, we try to avoid linking to external sites as it might negate the TOS we signed when joining. Now, if only we could call the "Wiki Police" and penalize the one's who are really breaking the rules around here! But that would be all the wiki owners, so of course they won't enforce any rules such as the one's they are breaking - just if we members happen to break them.
As to the Hot Wheels Wiki not wanting to use stolen images - most members on here have morals. Big, (GREEDY) corparations like EBAY do not have any morals. Or they would stop people from using clearly stolen images. It's as simple as that. EBAY is too greedy to care about your or my photo rights. They are only interested in how much profits they can earn this quarter. My name is Kenny and I'm an administrator on here and my views probably reflect most of the members on here, but probably not any of the owners of this Wiki. So, that's why my views are worth absolutely nothing. Kenny HaarFager 07:41, June 8, 2011 (UTC)
Stealing pictures is always bad, Unfortunately wikia has a different outlook. , If you read the line right the publish button it will explain it. Here is a Link . At least they left your name on it. I personally enjoy the flattery of using my images. Perhaps when i get a real camera and can actually take professional quality pictures i will start adding my name.
As for links, i will usually overlook links to HWC as I have a browser with HWC and this wikia open at all times. To me HWC is just a given. Also links are usually only needed for reference. I try and enforce all original material, I have a never ending battle with the "cut-and-paste" descriptions. so links should not be necessary if your not referencing anything. If you feel certain links are necessary then add them.
And kenny its not just you they are ignoring, its me too.. and every other wikia site out there. Wikia is no longer a community about the wiki, it is a company about the money! Sinnin  talk  Contributions 09:01, June 8, 2011 (UTC)

Thumbnail Image's Missing Error[]

Today I'm getting missing Thumbnail images, FULL images are still there, but some thumbnails are missing.

First new image in new images library returns this error.

Backend for getting original file /h/hotwheels/images/thumb/b/ba/BajaBruiser_11HWC.JPG/150px- BajaBruiser_11HWC.JPG is not responding

Not sure if this is just a server error, or there has been a drive failure. ZahaDoom 14:21, June 6, 2011 (UTC)

Talk Page For Images[]

Where can one find the link these days for the talk page of images that have been uploaded and conversations carried on about same said vehicles? HaarFager 05:54, January 30, 2011 (UTC)

Hi Kenny, One suggestion is maybe if you change "Your Preference" settings form the "New Wikia Look" back to "MonoBook" some of the more familiar tabs and links will be back in the Normal places. That's just a guess if you haven't done this already. Otherwise I'm too sure what you're talking about because the "discussion" tab is at the top of each page. Vista69 15:18, January 30, 2011 (UTC)
On the image page. Look across from the Image name, There will be an "Edit This Page" in yellow, Then a "Talk" Icon. Click the "talk" icon then you will see the talk page. Sinnin  talk  Contributions 08:07, January 31, 2011 (UTC)
I'll try the classic look and see if that works. Thanks, guys! HaarFager 12:40, January 31, 2011 (UTC)
That's what I needed - now it looks like it used to for me and things are in the same place. Thanks again, guys! Did you know that Big Bad Brad is getting married soon? HaarFager 13:02, January 31, 2011 (UTC)
Glad I could help, Kenny. I tried giving that "New" look a chance, and I go back occasionally just to try to get used to it but I never find any advantage over the oldskool way, and I always change back. It may not be as colorful but it's a lot more user friendly.Congratulations to Brad and his upcoming nuptials, that explains why he hasn't be very active on here lately. Are all of us wiki-pals invited? :-) Vista69 01:39, February 2, 2011 (UTC)

Current Wiki Layout starts to nerve[]

There are lots of good feature among the current wiki layout but nevertheless I see a large number of car pages where the list of car variants is partly covered by the right side wiki features box. A good example is '65 Mustang Convertible where the column with the thumbnails is completely covered and hence not clickable (a kind of zig-zag stencil is cutting off the right most parts of the table if it is too wide). Instead a new button appears at the top of the table allowing to maximize the table. But then I don't have the same features as in the normal page layout (e.g. pictures popping up, etc.) and it costs always additional mouse clicks. This strange cutting off seems to be independent from the screen width/resolution and occurrs even at wide-screen displays at high resolution. This is really starting to nerve - especially if you browse through the car pages. Wheeler66 22:53, December 11, 2010 (UTC)

Database[]

I'm new to this Wiki thing and I hope I have done this correctly, if not I'm sorry. My question is; is there a database somewhere that I can download that contains a list of Hot Wheels cars or do I just need to start from scratch? I'm trying to do an inventory of my collection. Thank you Jeff100 21:19, September 18, 2010 (UTC)

There is no downloadable database. There are close to a thousand new cars/variations for 2010, Thats about 3 a day. Just trying to keep up with it all is very difficult, That is the reason this wikia exists. Sinnin  talk  Contributions 23:36, September 18, 2010 (UTC)

A Simple Question I'd Like Answered[]

I just got an e-mail alert that said "A file you are watching on Hot Wheels Wiki has been uploaded." Read that again and let it soak in. A file I was watching was just uploaded. How can you watch a file before it's uploaded? How come I'm getting strange alerts like this? If it hadn't been uploaded until August 4th, 2010, which, it's still August 3rd where I am, how could I have marked it as being a file that I wanted to watch? It hadn't yet been uploaded to do anything to it. It's things like this that get me so confused and I wonder what the heck is going on with everything. Can someone please explain why I'm not losing my mind? Thank you. Kenny HaarFager 02:43, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

Sting Rod[]

hi all,im in sydney aust and came across the 2010 sting rod 198/214 they are on earth cards instead of battle cards.another thing is they have different sets of wheels- one set has the same wheels as the pictures on this site- the other ones have the same wheels as the ratbomb treasure hunts rear wheels but they are gold. any insite into these problems would be great.cheers adam. pics are in new pics

The Earth card was a common error on the international cards. and Both wheel variations are listed ont the Sting Rod page. Discussion Forum[]

Could we come up with a more normal email-like discussion forum group? For example, I belong to various "Yahoo Groups" forums. This might be archaic for some users but it sure works well for many. Could we work out an agreeable email style forum for general discussion for the Wiki??Vista69 04:45, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

I spent 10 minutes looking for the change to this page only to find that what had just been posted had just been removed, and that was the only change - not that something new had been added. If summaries could be left every time an edit is made, it would sure save a lot of time. Besides, why was this removed? It sounded like a good idea to me. HaarFager 17:56, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
Sorry about that Kenny, I made this suggestion late last night after a couple beers and it didn't sound like such a great idea to me this morning, especially after I couldn't get a "Yahoo Groups" email list to work. So I deleted the whole idea thinking that it wouldn't have even been noticed.
If you think that an email type forum would be a good way to communicate about the Wiki outside the Wiki, then I'm still for the idea, I'm open to suggestions. If you're able to set up an email group, then I'd like to join. Vista69 02:18, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
Well, it sounds like a great idea, I just don't know anything about setting up e-mail groups. Maybe somebody else does? HaarFager 03:46, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

count me among the "not thrilled" with the way our talk is scattered around everyone's talk pages. Maybe we can do something right here by setting up pages with topics for discussion of a general nature.

Another idea is to just usurp a section over at HWC in the Casting Database forum. I found the Wiki through HWC. and HWC BrianF is posting again so maybe we can even get a subsection like Ray's Variation Forum. Could get more participation that way too. I tried "integrating" on a page I did... http://hotwheels.wikia.com/wiki/Hot_Wheels_City_5-Pack ranugad 01:11, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Collectibles Line[]

Do we have a page devoted for a list of the Hot Wheels Collectibles Line? I'm talking about the multi-piece highly detailed cars that usually come in the black and clear boxes. I want to start one, so should I title it "Hot Wheels Collectibles"? Any comments or suggestions? Vista69 05:52, November 16, 2009 (UTC)

I say go for it, as long as the page gets started we can all work together to get it properly sorted and filled. Speaking of highly detailed cars, how about 1/18 scale cars. I have a few boxed up, i'd like to add here! Sinnin 11:28, November 16, 2009 (UTC)
Just my opinion, so it's not official, but it has always seemed to me that the users here just stuck to the 1:64 scale Hot Wheels vehicles. Even though somebody keeps erasing everywhere it said "1:64 scale." So, I vote we keep it that way, because we have enough confusion with identical casting names now. Can you imagine all the confusion if we started throwing in all those other scales with the same names? I have some other scale Hot Wheels, too, but have resisted posting them here. HaarFager 13:01, November 16, 2009 (UTC)
I respectfully disagree with you about omitting the large scale Hot Wheels, Kenny. I don't think that having one page devoted to the one subject of the larger size Hot Wheels would mess up any casting or name searches. There really isn't enough different cars that there would be a reason to have a separate page for each model. I second, David's motion to create a large scale Hot wheels page.I'm thinking the same idea for the Hot Wheels Collectibles line page that I'm talking about creating. I was planning on having just one page devoted to all the collectibles line castings.
As to your second point about the 1/64the scale. I'm the one guilty of deleting the reference to the scale of the Hot Wheels. I didn't realize you were concerned about putting it back into the description. I just thought it was left over from the early casting template, and I don't think using the general scale of 1/64th scale for all Hot Wheels castings is correct. In fact very few casting are a true 1/64th scale. For the most part they are scaled to fit into a 3" (+/-) package. Large trucks like the Peterbilt is scaled down a lot more than a car. If you look at the base of a Tomica brand casting, you'll see that each casting has a different, more accurate scale size cast into it. So describing each casting is 1/64 the size of the real thing is incorrect. Just my .02, Mike Vista69 20:00, November 16, 2009 (UTC)
Well, removing the scale isn't really that big of a deal to me, it's just that Hot Wheels have long been considered to be in the "1:64 scale" range. So, I thought, why change it? As to the larger size Hot Wheels, I suppose that doesn't really matter to me, either. I have 5 larger scale Hot Wheels, but I got them all off of eBay. Other than that, I have no knowledge or experience with them. Are there very many in the larger scales? You wouldn't know Hot Wheels sold anything but a few mainlines if you lived here in Southern Illinois. It sucks here. It's getting to the point that I can't hardly even add new photos because we get even the normal releases long after everybody else. I need to move to Mattel's main offices. That way, maybe I'd find some good stuff! So, I wouldn't vote against posting larger size Hot Wheels on this Wiki, if anybody wants to add some of theirs. If you do, please just send me another towel so I can wipe the additional drool off my monitor over more great stuff I'll never see in person. HaarFager 00:02, November 17, 2009 (UTC)
I totally agree with you that the small scale die-cast has always been considered as 1/64 scale, I always do too. I guess that's the main reason why I take it out of the description. I just consider it common knowledge, and there isn't any reason for it to be a redundant bit of info for every casting. Yes, I know I'm being nit-picky.
And no, I don't have a big collection of 1/18 scale. I have some, but I only have three Hot Wheels brand. I have a Dark Red C6 'Vette that was a freebee at one of the Detroit auto shows. I have the Beatnik Bandit, and the Dark Red Woodie surf wagon. I want a page for the large scale so I can see what I'M missing out on. :-) Vista69 01:54, November 17, 2009 (UTC)
Collectibles - YES! As I was adding to my User Page, I mentioned some of my favorite HWs, and I couldn't find mention of them (yet). Instead of
just 1 page - maybe we should have a few, I can think of 100% in the clear and black display boxes, Real Riders, Limited Edition 1/15,000, Limited
Edition with the "tire" top 1/500 (? - I'll have to check), Hall of Fame w/collector cards, Ultra Hots, and then the boxed pairs (like my Pony Wars I & II,
Slingshot dragsters, etc). I can add a few - but hundreds of my cars are stored in my parents house.
Scale - Hot Wheels did (does?) have some 1/87 in clear and black display boxes, and I think some 1/43 - specifically Ferrari or F1 (I'll have to check)
and the the bigger scale(s). Those should be designated with scale - the standard "matchbox" size should be the default. I agree with Mike - HW is
not a "scale" die-cast - I used to write a column in DieCast Digest - and I would often check scale if I could find original dimensions. I'm currently
adding and researching the Bebee & Mulligan slingshot, and I've added some die-cast dimensions. Keep an eye out for it and let me know what you
think of my wiki. - Thanks, Guido (----)

The Reason I Don't Like The Autogreet Feature[]

I just saw where the Hot Wheels Wiki had two vandals. They might be the same person using two different names, I'm not sure. But, in each case when these users signed up, there was the autogreeting for them in my name. Now, I certainly wouldn't be so effusive toward vandals, but the system uses my name without my permission. How can I take my name out of being used for this function? That's also why I like to be able to wait and see what a user is going to do before greeting them in such a way. Why waste our time making vandals feel welcome? HaarFager 21:50, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Another Issue[]

It seems like I'm always complaining, but the things I bring up here have relevance to me and the other users that do work here. I just noticed that somebody had left a comment on a new user's talk page and signed my name to it. I don't think things like this should be happening. When I was made an administrator here, that was one of the tasks I was charged with performing, that of greeting new users. This was said to be a high priority task, so I took that to heart and now try to greet all new users as soon as I can. It was such an important thing to me that myself and another administrator, Brad, worked up a specific message to post for new users here on the Hot Wheels Wiki that was geared to the specific needs of this wiki. Now, if it's just some sort of programming that pastes this new greeting with my name attached, I wish there was some way to turn it off, at least on this wiki. HaarFager 19:21, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

What you're seeing is a new feature that we just developed called the "welcome tool" -- it's designed to make the job of welcoming easier for you. When a new contributor posts, a welcome message gets posted one minute later. The message is totally customizable by the wiki's admins -- so we can use the Hot Wheels-specific message that you guys have developed.
Now, you guys have been amazing about leaving welcomes, and this tool is mostly designed for all of the wikis where the admins aren't consistent about it. But you still may want to use it here (customized to be Hot Wheels specific), because the speed is really helpful.
We've been testing this feature for a couple weeks on various wikis, and I've been really impressed with the responses from new contributors. Even when a wiki has great, consistent welcomers, the welcome is still usually posted a couple hours after the new person's edit. It turns out that a one-minute delay is really effective -- the welcome catches people while they're still on the wiki, and helps them to feel connected to an admin. I've seen a lot of new people reaching out to admins for help that otherwise would just be lost.
So -- I'll switch over the Hot Wheels messages, and show you how to customize this. Then you can tell me what you think, okay? -- Danny (talk) 20:12, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I changed MediaWiki:Welcome-message-user to use the Hot Wheels welcome message. It's got three variables in it that do some cool things. $1 pulls the name of the page that the contributor edited, so it says "Thanks for your edit to the (article name) page." $2 and $3 pulls the name of the most recently active admin, signs it with that admin's name, and adds a link to their talk page.
I signed in as a make-believe user, Dannytest15, so you can see what the message looks like now -- User talk:Dannytest15.
There are more ways that you can customize this; there's more info on the User:Wikia page. You can also turn it off if you want, but I hope you give it a chance for a little while. This is a new feature that I designed myself, and I'm really excited to see how well it's working on wikis all over Wikia. So please let me know what you think! -- Danny (talk) 20:25, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
Danny, thanks for this great new feature, it seems to work perfectly! It is thanks to all the people such as yourself and others, that are creating these new automatic tools which improve things greatly and makes us pitiful humans obsolete! I'm practically not needed anymore! Whoo hoo! HaarFager 20:54, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
Is there any timeline when they'll be finished "upgrading" everything? I'm tempted to just stop working on any wiki until they stop the continual changes and then relearning how to use it all at once, not several different times over and over. This will have the decided advantage of not wasting so much of my time. Sorry to feel this way, I really like wikis. HaarFager 02:07, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
Well, here's the thing: We inherited the MediaWiki software from Wikipedia -- and, basically, it just doesn't work that well. It's "early adopter" software -- it works well for tech-y people who are okay with the idea that you have to learn complicated syntax before you can write stuff.
Wikis are an incredibly powerful tool for collaborative writing -- and once everybody learns how to use them, then that's going to change the way information is organized in the world. I know that's weird to talk about, but this really is important, on a large-scale social and cultural level. Wikis are going to change the world. But that only happens if people learn how to use them.
So -- we're working on making wikis easier for people to learn. Right now, wikis run like Linux, and they need to run like iPhones. We need to take the hard stuff away and automate it, so that people don't have to see it -- and they can concentrate on the important stuff, like adding information about Hot Wheels cars.
Unfortunately, we can't just redesign everything all at once. You can't design a living site like that -- you need enough consistency from one day to the next, so that an editor can accept each change as it comes along, and keep moving on. Plus, the redesign is an organic process -- we pay a lot of attention to what happens on the site, and we learn a lot from each step. That learning informs the next step. We couldn't do that if we tried to design everything all at once, without seeing how people use it.
So, the bottom line is: Wikia is a work in progress, just like a wiki is. It's going to keep developing and growing for a long time. Sometimes it takes a step forward and a step back, as we learn more -- but, just like a wiki, it gets better over the long term.
Wikis are a collaboration among hundreds of different people. That's challenging sometimes, because it means you have to be flexible. You don't have total control over everything that gets added to this site -- other people come along with different ideas, and you have to compromise and adjust. That kind of process isn't for everybody. But as you've seen on this wiki -- if you can roll with that process, then the thing that you create together is so much bigger and better than anything you could have done on your own.
The same thing is true on a bigger scale, working with Wikia and all of the other wikis on the site. This is a big collaboration between you and me and the engineers and the designers and the hundreds of thousands of other contributors on the site. That's not always easy, and it takes some adjustment. But if you can roll with it... look at the amazing things that we can create together. -- Danny (talk) 03:10, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
Thank you, Danny, for that very well thought out answer! HaarFager 07:55, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

ALL LISTS from 1995 to 2009[]

Instead of emailing everyone individually, I thought it would be good to leave the message here. The Lists by years, from 1995 to 2009 are completely done, with all Collector Numbers and Toy Numbers. I basically took the layout that was provided from 2009 and worked my way back, I did have a few members help on they way, and thanks. When I started coming here actively in October. I notice there really wasn't much info on these lists, something had to be done, and took the liberty to do it. (Colors on Cards) I also thought of staying as close to the colors as a theme on the card, so if you notice for example List of 2000 Hot Wheels by series some colors can be nerving, and I didn't do that on purpose. I just tried to be close as possible to the card.

I tried something along the way, and need all your thoughts here. If you click onto 2008 New Models it will take you to a short list of all that is pictured, originally was a redirect. Here's an idea that Vista brought up in another message from another listing, "what do we do with variations do we show them". Now, this seems like work, but it is an idea. There is room on the 2008 New Models to go across to the right. I did it to see on how many across and we can go up to 7 photos and maybe 8 total, it is only a thought. (Did Not save that work) We now have thorough list of all information that can help when we do our listings. If I missed anything along the way with the lists, then it needs fined tuned, hope you all like it. Fantazim 12:26, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Great job getting all those lists put together. Thanks for all your work. I'll keep adding pictures to the lists.Regarding adding the variations... were you thinking it would look better to put them next to each other, side by side, or add them verticly as another list entry? Personally, I think if we were to include variations, they should be stacked as another entry. just my .02 Vista69 21:09, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, Well, if we are going to show the photos, then we should go across, I saw a few you did on the on the 1998 list. That's what I was saying you could add a string like Photo 1 Verision 2. Not sure, but that might be the way I think, like your doing or we can leave the list as a list but then have them go to another page, but it is mor to Brad and Kenny too. Fantazim 22:00, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Things are strange... Back to the List of 1998 Hot Wheels page, I was at a library using a newer computer than mine. I inserted the two similar images back to back without any spaces or breaks of any kind and the two images were left and right of each other making the picture column wider. Now, I'm back with my own computer and the two images are stacked. The whole column is taller with a single line entry. How do the pairs of images appear on your monitor? Vista69 02:31, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
It looks side by side to me, I know their servers were down earlier. If it changes then you could cut and copy the photo string and name it photo 2 or something. Fantazim 03:27, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
I think it has more to do with the individual computers. If side by side is what you think looks the best, then I'll continue to do it this way, as opposed to adding another line entry. It's easier that way anyway. Vista69 04:08, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
No, each variation should have it's own line. 2 images in one slot throws off the column spacing too much. Somebody talked about that before, but I forget when or which page it was connected to. HaarFager 04:20, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
I just tried what you were saying Kenny, actually played around the other evening I fixed 2 of them Vista did but now when it comes to "Multiple Photos", do we say "Photo" and "Photo 2" or Ver. 1 and Ver. 2 and so forth. Fantazim 04:35, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
Actually, that's what the Notes/Variations column is for. Variations such as these kinds. HaarFager 04:41, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
Wow this is getting huge. I meant "Ver. 1" short for Version 1, reason I bring that up is, I see some other sites that have it, we can stick to photo 1, and photo 2. I had 6 or 7 of these going across the other night with the Dodge Challenger Concept doing the Photo 1 and etc. Fantazim 05:10, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

THIS HAS GOT TO STOP[]

I'm so mad over another change I just encountered, I can't see straight! How the heck do we create new pages anymore? When you search for the name of the page you want to create, it brings up a "this page does not exist" page. But, it also used to have a link where you could click if you "do you want to create this page?" Now, it's no longer there! What is going on and how are we supposed to create pages now!!!!???? Somebody at Wikia better straighten out this mess poste haste! HaarFager 16:41, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi, guys -- Gosh, I'm sorry that the changes have been so frustrating for you. I haven't been watching this page -- but I will from now on. If you've got any questions about a change, or how to fix something, please let me know; I'm happy to help.

So -- the changes that were just made over the last couple days are all changes in MediaWiki messages, which can be changed back very easily. Let me see if I can figure out which changes you're talking about... -- Danny (talk) 17:52, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Okay, I put back the "You can create this page" link on the search results page. That was taken out because it's not really the typical way that people create pages. Other ways to create pages are:
  • Create a link to the page that you want to create on another article. Follow the red link to create the page.
  • In the address bar in your browser, replace the name of the page that you're on with the name of the page that you want to create. That brings up a new page that says "Click here to create this page!"
Since you use the red link on the search page a lot, I restored it on this wiki. All this stuff is easy to customize; just let me know. -- Danny (talk) 18:01, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, Danny! Hallelujah, de Lord be praised! Massah been good to us slaves! HaarFager 18:39, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Danny, I just wanted to thank you for putting back the red "create this page" link for us. I guess it IS an important link for the Hot Wheels Wiki since there's so many new pages to create. I think most of us relied on that link to stay constant. Thanks for all you do. Vista69 04:46, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, no problem! Thanks to you (and everybody) for making this wiki so awesome. Let me know if there's more stuff that needs fixing. -- Danny (talk) 19:33, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Help[]

What happened to the help pages we used to have on the Hot Wheels Wiki? They were helpful. The one's they gave us don't help anything. Have you tried making any sense of the help page for displaying a picture from another website? Utter gibberish. It's very frustrating because we used to have a help page that addressed this exact kind of image formatting, and it worked. HaarFager 06:17, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

List Of Users[]

What happened to the link for all the users on the Hot Wheels Wiki? It used to be link located in the Special Pages section. You could go there and just click on it and it would bring up all the users here. Two clicks and it would display. Has this link been removed? HaarFager 01:04, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Kenny, The Community Portal doesn't look to be set up in direct connection to main for some reason, that is why they aren't answering to anything we put. Fantazim 04:17, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
Leave it to them to take away things that we do need and give us something we don't need and that doesn't work. For what reason do we have a community portal anyway? We take care of all of our problems ourselves, except the ones they gives us by constant change. Ostensibly, change is for the better, but you notice it never is. HaarFager 04:48, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
The above word "gives" is not a typo. We slaves is jus' waitin' for our Massah's to he'p us. Please he'p us, Massah! Oh, de Lord save us! HaarFager 17:21, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Constant Layout Changes[]

Why does the layout of pages keep changing? It makes it very hard to work when you're used to the placement of buttons you've pushed thousands of times and numbers being in a certain place, when they're moved, even infitesimally. Will these changes end eventually? HaarFager 00:40, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

What Happened!?[]

Now my edit window is just a tiny area as composed to the tall edit window we used to have to work in. Is this a permanent change or just something that shows up this way on my computer? And what's with changing the little Summary and Save Page box at the bottom of each page? Now everything's in a different place and it takes me added time to locate them over where they used to be for so long. Is this really a change for the better? Sure, it's new! But, is it any better? I don't think so. HaarFager 13:11, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Got to agree with you, especially when your doing long pages and I mean long pages, it's like, you want play etch a sketch with the monitor. Fantazim 13:22, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Here's a tip that I discovered. I can't speak for all browsers, but with mine, if I hit the Preview button, the edit window gets almost twice as big. Let me know how it works for you, Later Vista69 00:51, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Vista69

Add an Image!?[]

I see this change as a major set-back. What happened to the "Add an Image" link at the top of the edit area???!!Vista69 08:45, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

I saw it was gone too, there is Upload Image page. Fantazim 12:22, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Update on the missing link... It's been changed to an icon at the far right on top of the edit window. I'm Happy again :-) Vista69 00:23, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Interested In Errors....?[]

Hello, I'm from KY and just started collecting. I recently Picked up a few cars from a local retailer that have some significant errors. I have a Nissan Silvia (m6886 Team Hot Wheels Racing. The Error here is in the Tampo. The "WH" in Hot Wheels is smudged. I also have a Ferrari FXX L9948 Yellow with White Stripe with a fingerprint in the stripe. Another I picked up is an 08 Lancer Evolution l9938 blue. The Error here is on the deck lid (trunk) right above the Mitsubishi Badge is a spot of Either Silver Paint or where the machine stamping the badge had rubbed it off. I got two of these ( one First Edition and one 08 New Models) and they both have the same serial but the card on the first ed. is nearly half the size of the 08 new ed card and the car is painted gunmetal and has different rims. lol

DIECAST vs CARDBOARD[]

hi, i live in sydney and have noticed alot of my 2010 series is miss numbered by 2 or more.i have a rapid response with the nuber 20/214,in the list on this sight its listed as 18/214 and theres alot more of them across the whole set.has anybody else noticed and has hotwheels noticed and what will they do ? cheers adam.

Did you say you live in Sydney Australia? If so, then you could be looking at the numbering system for the international cards. The numbering system used for the international cards, i.e. countries outside of America, use a different order than the ones found in America. To check and see if this may be the case, you can compare the numbers of the cars you are referring to with the American and International lists found here: List of 2010 Hot Wheels and List of 2010 Hot Wheels (International). Please let me know if this helps. Kenny HaarFager 14:06, May 2, 2010 (UTC)

Non-standard cars under the HW brand[]

Hi everyone. I was here several months ago looking for sub-lines like Sizzlers and the X-V Racers that HW released over the years. Do these belong here? Thanks! --Xvracer 05:14, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

They absolutely belong here! Please feel free to add them! --HWC Mongrel 13:46, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Another New User, a few questions[]

Hi folks, I'm a moderate collector, and one of my hobbies has been categorizing my hobby. I've got photos of just about every Hot Wheels car I've purchased, although I focus on a few select models. You can see the kind of thing I've done on my own sites: my Gallery, and my wiki.

I am a Canadian collector, so the specific of what I end up with will be different from what is available in the US -- for example, in Canada there were no Web Trading series cars, although the same models appeared in the same numerical place in the sequence. Another example, in '01 or '02 there was a special edition, un-numbered Fandango that was available with the Collector's Guide for that year in Canada that I believe was not available in the US. Are we considering the US lists as "authoritative" for this site?

What about cars external to the series (eg: this Classics Series 3 car) or generally odd, suspicious, or unverifiable cars?

--Xdroop 01:12, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

  • Welcome, Xdroop! We look forward to your additions to the wiki! I would say that any HW released for purchase at retail could be and should be captured here. So, if you know of castings or variations that existed outside of the US, please add them. As far as prototypes and things like that go, I could see there being an article on the concept of prototypes and there can be some featured there as a gallery to get the concept across, but I wouldn't put them in the line-up of versions on a casting's page, if you understand my meaning. --HWC Mongrel 20:33, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Hello everyone, I hope I do this post correctly. I am a new collector to Hot Wheels, I started it as something for me little boy. Definitely a learning curve as a collector. I do have a question that I hope someone could answer. As a Canadian I have been collected what I find in local stores however, I have gone online and ordered from some U.S. retail sites. What I have noticed is differences between the packaging. I.e U.S. 2008 First Models vs Cdn. 2008 New Editions, U.S. Team Exotics vs Cdn. Exotics, and the Series numbers are referred to differently. I.e. U.S. 1 of 40 vs Cdn. 1/40. Can anyone explain the reasoning behind this aside from being manufactured in a different location. Mystery Cars well, those are a mystery in itself. Thank you in advance. Northerndancer711 22:18, 28 November 2008 (UTC)northerndancer711

New Helper[]

Hey everyone - I'm Shawn, a Wikia Helper. I've been taking a look at everything around here while making a few edits and additions, and am pretty impressed! I want to help out around here, is there any specific area I can be of help working on? If anyone has any questions, feel free to drop a note on my talk page. Shawn (talk) 19:05, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Casting template[]

Hi folks: I played around a little bit with the casting template this morning, to get rid of the big white space that was at the top of a lot of pages. Scott is working on another version of the template that I think will be great. I'm hoping we'll have that up soon. Meanwhile, this one works... -- Danny (talk) 15:59, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

I just added a new edit to the template that includes Version info as well - hope it helps the process! Shawn (talk) 23:13, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Manufacturers, marques and owners...[]

I've added some Category pages for Manufacturers, and I've come across a dilemma.I've put Bentley as a sub-group of VW, for example, and Rolls Royce as a sub-group of BMW as this is the current situation. However, this was not the case when the two existing Rolls-Royce castings (or indeed the cars they are based on) were made. Equally, BMC, the parent company of Austin, Morris and Rover no longer exists, along with those marques. Should BMC be removed and Austin and Morris be listed at the top level? How important are corporate structure and international commerce when discussing little toy cars? :) Butterfingersbeck 09:37, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

When I started creating the framework for the manufacturers, I tried to stay as true to today's industry as possible. That's why you'll find Willys and AMC where they are, rather than companies in their own right, as they once were. As for BMC, I don't even know that it needs to be added since Hot Wheels never made a "BMC" car; HW only made cars under other marks that are now owned by other companies. To me, it's about the current industry and the licensed marks and legal lines on the packages. --HWC Mongrel 14:22, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi KABLM. Are you in a country other that the USA? From what I understand, if you are outside the US, you'll receive alternate Connect Cars. I'm not sure too much about them other than what I have written on the Connect Cars page already. Check out the section underneath the "50 States" section. I started something there, hopefully you can add some info and pics. BigBadBrad01 14:12, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

License Plates and Key Chains[]

1) We just bought 2 new Hot Wheels, a '63 Split-Window Corvette and a white Jaded. They both had a license :plate underneath they're respective car. The Corvette has one that was:

MAR [Hot Wheels logo] 11
[In flames] Eat my Flames [/In flames)
and the Jaded had the same thims as above but instead says SEEYAA!.

2) I've seen that 2009/2010 had something just like the plates but it was keychains. Were there different designs or was it the same design or was the car 1/2 keychain?

Assistance in Identifying a Die Cast[]

Although not sure whether this is the correct location for this request, yet thought this would be a good starting place. If there is a better location for this request, please let me know!

Came across a Hot Wheels multi lot listing on ebay that had one item that was interesting and wanted to get more information about it. Contacted the seller and have yet to receive response — now that the item has been sold, doubt that will happen. Searched through all the Hot Wheels yearly listings and was unable to locate this item — so there is a possibility it might be another brand. All I currently have to go on are a couple of images and the color green — which looks a bit like a Spectraflame color.

McDonalds Hot Wheels[]

Hi guys I am very new to this and technology so i hope i am doing this right or the right area to put this. I have been a long time Hot Wheel fan. I noticed that the McDonalds page is missing a lot of pictures of cars and dont even include any sets from 2014 and up with no info on 2010 or 2011. have almost all of the Hot Wheels from McDonald cars from 1991 to 2017 in very nice condition with decals. I would be willing to take pictures of what ever you guys need if someone would be willing to upload them on this site. I would if i understood how to work and edit this site.

Thank you

Tim

I'm trying to identify this special Hot Wheels car[]

UnnamedHotWheelsTopSpeedCar

Here's that hot wheels model I'm talking about. It has a digital top speed calculator on the top of it.

I need some help identifying this top speed calculating Hot Wheels car, what is the name of this car listed here?

I have a screenshot of it right here: Rptrackmaster17 (talk) 07:02, January 30, 2019 (UTC)

It looks like the SpecTyte. I don't see it on the page. There were a couple of times mattel released modified castings with technogadgetry. There a couple a different cars that had games built in and a tiny screen on the bottom. Mach 5 (talk) 18:23, January 30, 2019 (UTC)
I believe this is a Speed Readerz car, or maybe a Rumblers car, nothing to do with spectyte. ~~~~

Bugatti Chiron & Scalper questions[]

Hello everyone. I recently picked up a black Bugatti Chiron from my local Target. I believe this casting is highly desired, and it was the only one there, so I decided to buy it and collect it. But something isn’t right with the car. The silver trim has multiple paint chips, and I didn’t even take it out of the package! It just came like this. I was wondering if it decreased the value of it at all.

Also, what is the definition of a Scalper? Thanks! 17Aussie (talk) 02:03, July 16, 2020 (UTC)

i'm not sure about the bagatti and also a scalper is a person who resells stuff to make a quick buck i think bur i'm not sure so take my saying with bit of salt ~~~~

Your Chiron is a simple Errors. See the Error Guide for more. And it'll probably be a really long time before it's worth more than you paid. Everyone has their own opinion on scalpers. Most consider volume and high price hikes to be scalper traits. Personally, a scalper is someone who pays the rent by buying the newest, hottest cars and selling them on the secndary market at hugely inflated prices. Mach 5 (talk) 16:52, July 17, 2020 (UTC)

Hey, so I have this car that I bought the other day, and it's a 67' camaro, but It isn't anywhere on the 67' Camaro page. I also don't remember which pack I got it from, though I believe it was in a 9pk or a 20pk exclusive. Here's some photos of the car, if anyone can help:
