Description[]
The Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3 is a full-sized luxury performance car manufactured by Mercedes-Benz from 1968 to 1972. The car mated the 6.3L M110 V8 from the Mercedes-Benz 600 Großer with the body and chassis of the W109 300 SEL. When initially released, the 300 SEL 6.3 was the world's fastest four-door car. 6,526 were produced.
While the car was not intended for motorsports, five 300 SEL 6.3s were modified into 300 SEL 6.8s by AMG, which was at the time a small tuning company founded by ex-Mercedes-Benz engineers; this effectively makes the car the first AMG car. These cars were nicknamed the "Red Pig" (German: Rote Sau). The cars had short-lived but fairly successful racing careers due to unsuitable tires or rule changes prohibiting the cars from racing. One of the cars was subsequently sold to Matra to test aircraft landing gear.
The real-world 300 SEL 6.3 is based on the original W109 Chassis from the 280 SEL 4.5. But the Hot Wheels Red Pig casting is a totally different casting (both body and base) from the 2020 Car Culture '72 Mercedes-Benz 280 SEL 4.5 from the 2020 Modern Classics Series.
