Space Shuttle Discovery is a retired American orbiter, part of the now-retired Space Shuttle family of spaceplanes. Manufactured by Rockwell International from 1979 to 1983 with a serial number of OV-103, Discovery was the third orbiter to enter operational service, following Columbia and Challenger. Discovery's first mission was STS-41-D from August to September 1984; Discovery was the first of the Space Shuttles to be retired, with its last flight, STS-133, occurring on 24 February 2011. Discovery was decommissioned on 9 March 2011, having flown thirty-nine flights, and now resides at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia.
