This is one of a number of Starter Sets manufactured by Mattel as a beginner's playset with simple features; this is one of Hot Wheels's longest running sets. This set was originally introduced in 2002 as the Motorized Starter Set and featured a simple layout in a sort of a figure 8 layout with a loop at one end. In 2007, more pieces were added to allow the set to be configured into three different layouts.
This is likely the first Hot Wheels set to use rubber boosters as opposed to foam.
