Home Page Fix

I like the HW Latest Scoop section, good idea! My suggestion would be to limit how long info stays on that section. It has gotten quite long now with info posted and some over a month ago. Do we have a Scoop archive section yet or should we even keep one as the latest finds change quickly? I'd hate just to delete some of the info that is posted on it.

The other thing is the mass of images and links that have been shoved to the bottom due to the Scoop section. I took a look at the code and am a bit lost how to get things back in order. Could even due away with the four pics too now that there is a more solid looking front page.

On the images, if they can be re-aligned under the HWC banner at the bottom, I've got a plan. HWs make a lot of cool Holiday and seasonal cars. So how about revolving the images to reflect the current month?

1500 pages and growing. Hard to believe it had been A YEAR already since this place started up.

how about paying attention

why are there like 3 different ferrari casting pages now? there's already one mostly complete castings page and just need to add a few more pictures. so seeing that pictures are needed to be added to the "ferrari castings" page on the main page here seemed a little...odd?? so i don't know if someone can just link them all or something else that i don't know how to do. because it doesn't make sense to have 3 different pages attempting to give the same information. http://hotwheels.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Ferrari_Cars#1.2F64th_castings *Anomahaguy 18:13, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Moving Definitions

I just finished filling out the definitions section on the main page - I think we should place it in a new main-page section called "Glossary" or something. Shawn (talk) 17:05, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Improved front page

We should add something like "most visited content" on the front page near the random page and those things. I'm not sure how to do it, hoping that you guys could implement something.

It might be hard to do. I think what you mean is to have a counter to show like the pages that get visited the most. The only problem with that, is when somebody edits a page, that will get counted too, and sometimes I'll make several edits to a page just to correct everything and get it right. That will throw off the counter and not be very representative. So, I'm not sure it can be done to just count visits without edits. HaarFager 08:12, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Not just cars?

Is the focus here solely on the cars and not the other things like track sets, ect? Hida Atarasi 08:10, December 18, 2009 (UTC)

This wiki is for everything Hot Wheels. So, yes, if you'd like to add a track set, you're more than welcome to. BigBadBrad01 08:12, December 18, 2009 (UTC)

Classified Ads? Really?

I would have immediatly removed these ads as well as the corresponding section if I had the admin rights. This is NOT a place to buy, sell, or trade Hot Wheels. There are many other places on the web for this.

ADMINS - PLEASE DISABLE THIS GARBAGE!!! If there are ads, I'M DONE! Tszuta | Talk 23:46, June 7, 2011 (UTC)

Why are you so scared of someone offering a car for sale? I thought you're trying to add to your collection of older Blackwalls and Redlines? I vote YES, how could it hurt? Maybe I have a car or two that I could sell you for an agreed-on price. I think it's funny to see some moron trying to sell a $2 Turbo Mustang for $30. Lighten up, or other-wise,,,, see'ya! Vista69 02:25, June 8, 2011 (UTC)
Scared? LOL. It is as simple as this. This is an informative site. If I wanted to buy cars, I'd try eBay or The Toy Peddler. This site is for information. The other sites are dedicated for sales. I see this bringing nothing but SPAM and problems. It is my opinion and I am entitled to that. Tszuta | Talk 02:45, June 8, 2011 (UTC)
The fact is, the Hot Wheels Wiki was created under the assumption that it was to be a not-for-profit site, one that could provide needed information for the collectors. Many people, including myself, have "donated" lots of their time, knowing that it was for a "good cause." And the creators of the Wiki universe keep finding more and more ways to make money from our efforts. I would gladly file the correct tax form so I can share in all the revenues the Hot Wheels Wiki is generating. But, since this isn't a profit-sharing concern, I don't make a dime from any work I do here. And neither does anybody else. I am one hundred percent against ANY money-making scheme that profits from my labors without including me in the rewards. Sure, the members of this wiki can feel rewarded from all the great work we have provided, but it's not the same. Either admit it IS a money-making scheme and include the workers in on the profits, or stop profiteering from my and other member's hard work. It's as simple as that. I'm opposed to yet another way they can milk money off this Hot Wheels Wiki. Kenny HaarFager 07:23, June 8, 2011 (UTC)
That's the main reason I haven't been doing many edits on here lately. I refuse to sacrifice my valuable time all for the sake of their profits. Kenny HaarFager 07:27, June 8, 2011 (UTC)

Tony this is out of our hands. You have to realize there is 2 sides to this site. There is us, the collectors, and them, the wikia company. I personally dont like them either. Sinnin  talk  Contributions 09:10, June 8, 2011 (UTC)

There is no money involved for the ads, so there is no profit to be made for wikia. Sinnin  talk  Contributions 09:14, June 8, 2011 (UTC)
I know there are 2 sides to this. I'd run this thing on my own server but I'd get killed with bandwidth usage. I have to apologize for this getting dumped on you Dave. It seems like you are the point man for a lot of stuff that goes on here. You sacrifice your time just like the rest of us and don't need the additional BS. Tszuta | Talk 13:22, June 8, 2011 (UTC)
I think that this "classifieds" section is complete crap. First of all, there are already a maddening barrage of ads on each page, they EVEN HIDE THE IMAGES OF THE CARS SOMETHIMES! And also, HaarFager is right, why should they make money, I say, lets create our own HW fan site!

SyndicateOfSpeed 02:00, June 9, 2011 (UTC)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think if we decide to make a page it could be a:

-wiki (lol) -facebook page -google site -.com site -personal site

this would be a good idea, we could focus on more of the cool things and less of the junk!

A Note from Wikia

Hi everyone, I want to reassure you that these classifieds ads are just a temporary feature test (we'll reevaluate it in a few weeks). Sometimes we want to look at new ways that wikis can expand - which means experimenting with different ideas to see what works. We don't want to get in your way in creating the great wiki you have here, but it's sometimes good to see if something a bit off the wall can work, given a chance.

We're very interested in your feedback, and a good place to offer that is on my talk page, if you haven't already. We want to know what's working about the feature, what's not, how it could be better, and what it's not a good fit for.

In the meantime, we thank you bearing with us and trying out something new. We also hear your frustrations, and we apologize for any alarm this has caused. --Dopp WikiaStaff.png (help forum | blog) 20:05, June 9, 2011 (UTC)
