Description[]
Volcano Shoot-Out is a large battery-operated playset. The playset features a volcano and its monster, aptly titled Magma Mouth; the player is supposed to shoot as many monsters as possible to defeat Magma Mouth. The set features a rotating LED stick on the rear which rotates around to produce projections on a cardboard surface resembling a volcanic land. The stick takes advantage of Mattel's "persistence of vision" technology to create said projections; it is the only known Hot Wheels playset to use this technology.
Two game modes are available: Time Challenge, where the goal is to shoot as many monsters as possible within a time limit, and Creature Chase, where the player advances through stages until a final showdown with Magma Mouth, leading to the volcano imploding and the defeat of Magma Mouth. The set includes a unique gun-shaped launcher; the idea is that the player uses the launcher to launch cars against the monster projections, although the set can be played with without any cars as every trigger pull destroys a monster. 4 "AA"-sized batteries are required to power the volcano.
A Flash video game based on this playset was made available on the Hot Wheels website, named Volcano Shoot-Out: Molten Menace.
